It started like any other routine service. The customer rolled into Webbie’s Mechanical for a standard check-up, hoping to get in and out and back to the job quickly.
But during our inspection, we spotted something that couldn’t be ignored — the front tyres were completely bald. Worn smooth, no grip left, and well past safe. We flagged it straight away and strongly recommended getting them replaced before heading back out.
The customer nodded, appreciated the heads-up… but chose to get back on the road to finish deliveries.
A few hours later, we got our answer.
The truck was limping down the highway when both front tyres gave out. Blew apart. The driver managed to crawl to the next stop, but wasn’t sure what else to do. So, in the middle of the night, they brought it back to where they knew help would be waiting — our workshop.
Next morning, we found the truck parked out front, battle-worn and missing a bit of rubber.
We got stuck in straight away. Pulled the damaged tyres, fitted new ones, and double-checked everything. No judgment — just the job done right, as quickly as possible, so the customer could get back to work.
They drove away with new tyres, a fresh sense of caution, and a healthy respect for what those last few millimetres of tread really mean.
The takeaway?
Tyres are one of those things you can ignore — until suddenly, you can’t. If we flag something during a service, it’s not to slow you down… it’s to keep you going safely.
And if you ever find yourself stuck, middle of the night, no idea what to do?
You know where to find us.
