You know something’s not right when your steering feels like it’s guessing.

That’s what the driver of this Western Star was dealing with — a front end that floated all over the road, and tyres that were wearing out faster than they should. The truck was towing two trailers up and down winding roads, but it felt like it had a mind of its own.

Steering was vague, tyres were chewing out unevenly, and every trip felt just a little bit worse than the last.

They brought it into Webbie’s Mechanical for a proper look. We got it up on axle stands and slid a tyre lever under the front wheel to check for play — and there it was.

“This king pin’s got more play than a sock full of rocks.”

The movement in the front end wasn’t just a little off — it was way out of spec. That kind of slack doesn’t just make your steering sloppy. It hits your tyres, your suspension, and even your fuel economy over time.

We pulled the front end down, removed the old king pins, cleaned everything out, and pressed in new components. Once reassembled and torqued up properly, the steering was tight, direct, and just how it should be.

After a quick test drive, the truck was back out on the road — now tracking straight through those windy hills, no fighting the wheel, and no more guesswork on every corner.

The Takeaway?

If your steering feels vague, or your tyres are wearing unevenly — don’t wait. It’s not just a comfort issue, it’s a safety and wear issue that’ll cost you more the longer it’s left.

Bring it in. We’ll get it sorted, properly.

Because trucks should drive like they’re working — not like they’re wandering.
