This Mercedes recently came in after a customer complained of overheating on a trip. When diagnosing overheating issues, we always start by getting the truck up to temperature so the thermostat should open.

Then we carry out a thorough check:

🔧 Coolant levels and visual inspection underneath the truck

🔧 Temperature readings on the upper radiator hose

🔧 Temperature readings on the lower radiator hose On this Mercedes, the thermostat should open at 79°C.

But when we tested it, the top hose was at 83°C while the bottom hose sat at just 52°C. That tells us the thermostat wasn’t opening properly — the root cause of the overheating. Catching problems like this early means a simple repair instead of a costly breakdown.
