Once we’ve pulled the head off and cleaned the block, we take precise measurements from all four corners of the liners. Each liner needs to sit at just the right height compared to the top of the block.
Sometimes, the liners can drop over time — and when that happens, the block needs to be machined and shimmed so that everything sits back within spec.
If the liners sit too low, coolant and exhaust gases can mix again, leading to the same overheating or pressure issues that caused the engine failure in the first place.
That’s why at Webbie’s Mechanical, every rebuild starts with this process — cleaning, measuring, and checking every detail — before we move any further. Because doing it right the first time means you don’t end up back where you started.
