A customer recently brought in their newly purchased green Mack for its first service. Everything seemed normal — until we drained the oil.
That’s when our mechanic spotted it: a shimmer of metal on the sump plug. Not what you ever want to see.
Fine metallic swarf in engine oil can mean early bearing wear, hard facing breakdown on timing gears, or — on Macks and Volvos — even a dropped valve.
But this truck wasn’t smoking. It wasn’t missing. The oil still felt right, and no fault codes were showing.
So instead of jumping to conclusions, we followed a better path:
🔹 Took an oil sample
🔹 Sent it for testing
🔹 Scheduled a recheck in 10,000 km
Why? Because catching a potential problem early means fewer surprises and less time off the road. If the next sample shows no progression, we’re in the clear. If it does — we’re ready.
That’s the kind of care we believe in. Not guesswork. Just good work.
