The first job is always sourcing the fault. That is where proper diagnostics come in, tracing the problem back to where it actually starts rather than guessing and throwing parts at it.
From there we fix those pesky faults, whatever they turn out to be. Sometimes it is a failed sensor like a crankshaft sensor that has been throwing a warning light or dropping the truck into limp mode, the reduced-power setting the engine uses to protect itself. Other times it is a corroded plug or a wire that has rubbed through.
And when the wiring itself has had it, we change it out properly rather than patching over the problem, so the fault stays gone.
