It always starts the same way — a knock you can’t quite place.
You turn down the radio. You check the dash. And you wonder: “Is that my engine?”
That was the case for one of our recent customers, who’d been hearing a strange knocking sound while driving their white Isuzu Pantech. It didn’t feel urgent at first, but it was persistent — and thankfully, they trusted their gut and brought it in to us at Webbie’s Mechanical.
Once we had the truck in the workshop, we pulled the engine down… and that’s when the real story started to show.
The piston had picked up on the side of the liner. You could actually see the score marks — deep gouges where metal had seized and dragged against metal. It’s the kind of damage that doesn’t just “go away” — it builds heat, friction, and eventually leads to a catastrophic failure if left untreated.
In this case, it was likely caused by low oil pressure or overheating. Both conditions starve the engine of proper lubrication and cooling, which means the piston starts to drag… and that’s when things go from bad to worse.
But here’s the good news: because the driver acted early, we were able to catch it before a complete engine failure.
We rebuilt the engine, replaced the damaged components, and gave everything a clean bill of health.
At Webbie’s Mechanical, we always say: “If it doesn’t sound right, it probably isn’t.”
And in this case, that little knock saved the customer from a much bigger (and costlier) headache.
Got a noise you’re not sure about?
Don’t wait until it’s too late — bring your truck to Webbie’s for a proper check.
