What Started as a Leak Nearly Became a Catastrophe

A small oil leak doesn’t always stay small.

An Iveco rolled into Webbie’s Mechanical with what looked like a routine problem. The driver pointed out a steady leak under the cab — nothing dramatic, but enough to raise a red flag.

We checked it out and sure enough, the leak seemed to be coming from where the power steering pump mounted to the engine block. To fix it properly, we needed to remove the pump… which meant taking the timing cover off too.

That’s when we found the real problem.

Behind the cover, the timing chain was hanging loose — and the gears? Worn and ready to fail. Had it gone unnoticed much longer, it could’ve led to catastrophic engine damage and a whole lot more downtime.

Luckily, it didn’t.
We jumped on it, replaced the worn chain and gears, fixed the leak, and sealed it all back up properly.

The best part? The customer was back on the road with peace of mind — and a truck that’ll keep earning instead of sitting still.

Because sometimes, it’s not just about fixing what you see — it’s about finding what’s hiding behind it.
