A tiny gap at the top of your engine. Get it wrong and the valves can drop into the piston.
An overhead set is the job where we adjust the clearance — the valve lash — between the valves and the rockers at the top of your engine. Too much and you’ll hear knocking. Too little and the valves are drawing down toward the piston. If they drop, it’s a rebuild.
Rocker cover off. Turn to TDC. Two valves at a time, feeler gauge between every valve and rocker, lock it, check it twice.
Quiet engine. Proper breathing. No surprise rebuild.
