Sometimes the issues that affect your truck the most aren’t big, dramatic failures.

They start small.

A bit of movement through the rear end.
A slight looseness over bumps.
Nothing major — just something that doesn’t feel quite right.

That’s exactly what we see when suspension bushes in leaf springs start to wear out.

What Are Suspension Bushes Doing?

Inside your leaf spring setup, there are bushes fitted into the ends of the spring pack.

These bushes allow controlled movement while keeping everything aligned and secure.

When they’re in good condition, your suspension feels tight, stable, and predictable.

When they wear out, that’s when problems begin.

What Happens When They Wear

Over time, the bush material breaks down.

Once that happens, the bush can start to move inside the leaf spring eyelet, instead of staying fixed where it should be.

That movement leads to:

  • Excess play in the suspension
  • Poor alignment
  • Uneven load handling
  • Increased wear on surrounding components

It might not stop the truck immediately, but it slowly affects how it drives and handles — especially under load.

How We Fix It Properly

Fixing worn suspension bushes isn’t a quick bolt-on job.

To do it properly, we need to remove the leaf springs completely.

Here’s how we approach it:

  • Lift the truck and safely support it
  • Remove the U-bolts
  • Support the axle so it doesn’t drop
  • Remove the leaf spring packs

Once the springs are out, we press the old bushes out.

From there, the preparation is just as important as the replacement.

We thoroughly clean the inside of the eyelet:

  • Removing dirt
  • Clearing out rust
  • Cleaning off any old anti-seize

This ensures the new bush seats properly and doesn’t fail prematurely.

The new bushes are then pressed in with the correct fit and alignment.

Once everything is ready, the suspension is reassembled and torqued correctly.

The Result

Once the job is done, the difference is noticeable.

The rear end feels tight again.
The truck handles the way it should.
No unnecessary movement. No hidden wear points.

It’s one of those repairs that doesn’t always look dramatic — but makes a big difference to how your truck performs every day.

The Takeaway

Suspension bushes are a small component, but they play a big role in how your truck feels and performs.

Catching them early during a service can prevent further wear and keep your suspension working the way it should.
